Why do I think about having a drink?

Category: alcohol adviceKenny @ 6:35 pm

Alcohol addiction is simply that; an addiction. With addiction come many withdrawal symptoms. Someone addicted to alcohol that has had suddenly stopped drinking will normally feel the urge for another drink normally 4-24 hours after their last drink. This is the most common symptom, although there are many varying symptoms.

For example, a person suffering from mild alcohol addiction might suffer from loss of sleep, agitation, raised levels of anxiety and panic attacks. A moderate alcoholic might suffer from withdrawal symptoms such as sweating and tremor.

The symptoms do get progressively worse depending on the severity of your addiction. A long-term alcohol addiction sufferer might suffer withdrawal symptoms such as vomiting and severe diarrhoea. In severe cases of alcoholic addiction a sufferer might suffer from withdrawal symptoms known as delirium tremens and including confusion, disorientation and visual hallucinations.

Attending an alcohol rehab centre can help you with withdrawal symptoms.

Am I an alcoholic?

Category: alcohol adviceKenny @ 10:25 am

Many recovering alcoholics will tell you that this is the thought-provoking question that prompted them to seek out help with their alcohol addiction and get themselves into an alcohol rehab centre.

By definition, an alcoholic must consume more than 21 units of alcohol per week for males, and 14 units of alcohol per week for females to constitute having an alcohol problem according to the World Health Organisation. This is the “measure” of establishment by many western countries; however, it doesn’t have to be as rigid to think you are an alcoholic, or become an alcoholic. Just simply attending a pub or a bar every night after work every night for the entire evening can be a telltale sign you are an alcoholic – particularly if you don’t attend for the social element. Normally, the effects on relationships and friendships deteriorate through alcohol addiction so this removes all social aspects anyway

As a depressant, alcohol increases anxiety levels, depressive tendencies, paranoia attacks and confusion. If you drink to “null the pain” but only feel worse, then this is a common indicator that you could be suffering from alcohol addiction. But do not think you are the only alcoholic out there; you’re not! There are numerous avenues someone suffering from alcohol addiction can take; attend a local alcohol rehab centre, alcoholics anonymous meeting or even confide in a friend you can trust – it’s not something to be ashamed of

Welcome to the Alcohol Rehab Blog

Category: generalKenny @ 10:04 pm

I have set up this alcohol rehab blog with the sole intention of offering some friendly advice to a varying degreeo f people.

  • You may suspect you are an alcoholic and are looking for ways to treat your alcoholism, particularly through a form of alcohol rehab.
  • You may have been/are currently affected by an alcoholic and had to witness firsthand the effects of alcoholism on someone you care and trust.
  • You may also be a recovering alcoholic and looking for ways to continue your alcohol rehab.

If any of the above applies to you, then you are most certainly the kind of person I have set this blog up for!

First admitting you have an alcohol problem (or even suspecting you have an alcohol problem) is the biggest step you can take.  If you do not have the correct support, or even any support for your alcoholism, then this blog can hopefully provide you with the information you need.

Please bear with me whilst I update the site with relevant information on alcohol rehab centres, alcohol rehab programmes and any other information I think might help you with your quest for alcohol rehabilitation.
